About Blu-ray

Blu-ray was developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association, a group representing makers of consumer electronics, computer hardware, and motion pictures. As of June 2009, more than 1000 Blu-ray disc titles are available in Australia, 2500 in Japan, 1500 in the United Kingdom, and 2500 in the United States and Canada.

Blu-ray Disc is an optical disc storage medium designed to supersede the standard DVD format. Its main uses are for storing PlayStation 3 games, high-definition video, and data storage, with up to 50GB per disc. The disc has the same physical dimensions as standard DVDs and CDs. This is Blu-ray's strongest playing card, a single layer Blu-ray disc can hold 25GB of data. This is compared to the 4.5GB on a standard DVD. Furthermore, remember your old DVD's will not be obsolete, as Blu-ray players can play DVD's. Blu-ray players can upscale regular DVD's standard definition images and convert them to a higher resolution which is needed on a HDTV.

The benefits of Blu-ray technology, compared to the normal red laser is that the shorter wavelength can store much more data using the same room, as well as the clearer image with more color and vividness. And the really disadvantages of these technology is the Blu-ray disc are so expensive, about the $1,000.
